Making Money With a Disposable Product

Of all the really great ideas that business owners use to make money there is one that seems to elude most people.

For instance when you think of a business you tend to think of a product that can be sold that is timeless, well crafted and perhaps the stuff of heirlooms. Indeed there is a market for this kind of product, but there is one that is greater.

Perhaps you might think of a product that appeals to the widest demographic and has proven sales with significant customer retention. This is another great idea, but not the one I was thinking of.

Maybe it is a service that people will need repeatedly such accounting or carpet cleaning. Once more this is a great idea, but the real subject seems elusive.

The product I am talking about is any creation that is designed to be intentionally disposable. You might immediately think of products like paper towel of facial tissue. It’s possible you might think of paper cups and fast-food restaurant packaging. However, this can also be things like refreshment bottles, product packaging, surgical gloves, plastic utensils, cleansing wipes, garbage bags, boxes and envelopes.

This list is only a small sample of the disposable items that are in high demand with a great potential for repeat customers.

It is not uncommon to see how lucrative this market is when you look at any landfill. Watch any child on their birthday or at Christmas and see how much disposable material they discard from the new toys they received. All of that disposable packaging had to be purchased from someone.

We see evidence of this booming market every time we empty a milk or egg carton. We are aware of this product when we see a park in late winter where these ‘products’ have filled areas that wait for someone to come and collect the ‘merchandise’.

If a person can develop a product that someone will buy with the knowledge that it will be thrown away then the product producer already knows his or her business has the potential of long-term success.

Think about those drink carriers that make it easier to transport drinks to the office or home. Once the drinks are removed the trays are discarded. When you visit your favorite coffee shop and take a steaming latte back to work the cup will be disposed. Think of the boxes designed for appliances and HDTV’s. Consider the custom handled shopping bags that look great, but also find their way to the trash.

Somebody’s making money from designer trash.

When those businesses run out they will simply order more so that people can throw them away.

Now I know many are working to reduce the total amount of trash, which brings up another great reason to look at this sector as a moneymaking idea. Develop products that are recycled or have the ability to degrade more quickly than others. Make a disposable product that is environmentally friendly. Many businesses jump at the opportunity to make these kinds of products available.

We are a world adept at disposal. Why not develop a business that capitalizes on future trash?
